NATIONAL DAY OF SCOTLAND

Saint Andrew as patron is less known than his Irish counterpart, Saint Patrick, however much of Scotland's national identity revolves around this saint, who was one of the apostles who accompanied Christ.

This post is a good excuse to know more about what and how this day is celebrated in Scotland.

Who was San Andrés ?. And what is his relationship with Scotland? This simple video in English explains it:

The significance of St Andrew´s Day

St Andrew´s day in the United Kingdom

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day 2016 and our love of all things Andrew (our patron saint, our world number one tennis player…), we’ve been out scouting for people named Andrew to bring to Scotland.
A kilted VisitScotland crew plus a piper scoured the streets in Berlin, Paris, Dublin and London to find Andrews, and all variations of the name, both male and female, from Andrea to Andrei.
Once we’d tracked down 21 of them, we put them all on a bus and brought them to Scotland, to the town of the same name – St Andrews – to experience the true spirit of St Andrew’s Day, our national day.
